Manchester City – the current Premier League champions have emerged in the last few years as a major player in securing some of the world’s best talent after the arrival of mega-rich Sheikh Mansour in 2008.
Backed by the billionaire owner, the club look set to remain at the top of the English game for years to come. As usual, with money in football comes high profile big money signings and, of course, not all of this recruitment works out as planned. There will be those players that arrive at the club with huge reputations but fail to deliver the goods, flattering to deceive after the squeaky clean promo shots.
As the evening draws to a close in the Football Transfer Tavern, talk has turned to the players who our punters believe have been the biggest transfer misfits for the blue side of Manchester.
Even before the money came in, City were renowned for signing expensive flops and those players who failed to hit the ground running and mostly hit the bench instead.
When you have managers like Sven Goran Eriksson and Kevin Keegan, I suppose it was only natural for a few of these players to slip the net into the club.
