# 28-year-old reportedly makes big call in light of decision by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp

**The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are hopeful that the Reds can add a few players to their arsenal in January.** It’s been a pretty tough season so far for the Reds, but things appear to be on the up after a win against Southampton at the weekend. That said, it’s clear that a few major acquisitions are needed if they want to be able to compete at the top with the likes of Man City and Man Utd.

However, it’s a potential departure that has left the fans in the Transfer Tavern talking today. Indeed, [at least according to the Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpools-daniel-sturridge-decides-must-11548823), Daniel Sturridge could be set for the exit door in January – with the Englishman [reportedly](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpools-daniel-sturridge-decides-must-11548823) deciding to leave the club in an effort to save his international career. It is [said](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpools-daniel-sturridge-decides-must-11548823) that Jurgen Klopp’s decision to utilise him as a fringe player has played a big role in his decision, with the forward clearly not happy at being a bit-part player.

Sturridge’s frustration will come as no surprise, of course, having previously been a crucial player for the Reds. Particularly under Brendan Rodgers and alongside Luis Suarez, Sturridge was incredibly important and became a lethal goalscorer, but alas, those days seem a long time ago now.

He’s had to compete with injury problems and Roberto Firmino this season, and his game time has suffered as a result. With no change on the horizon, a departure does make sense.

***Landlord’s Verdict***

Liverpool can’t really afford to lose any more players, and so Sturridge should only be sold if they can find a good replacement.

That’s going to be tough, though, particularly in January, and so this move is far from a foregone conclusion.

That said, if Sturridge is to have any chance of making it to Russia, he needs to play every week.
