# 29-year-old attacker: I didn’t think twice about rejecting Tottenham and Liverpool

***For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, Willian has been one of the best Premier League signings in recent memory…***

Though he can be infuriating to watch at times, in general his form since moving to England has been very good indeed, and Chelsea have been huge benefactors as a result of that.

However, it could have been different. [In an interview with Four Four Two,](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/willian-signing-chelsea-was-complicated-liverpool-and-tottenham-were-interested?utm_m_medium=t&utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral) the Brazilian revealed that he could have ended up at Tottenham or Liverpool prior to moving to Stamford Bridge, but he [noted](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/willian-signing-chelsea-was-complicated-liverpool-and-tottenham-were-interested?utm_m_medium=t&utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral) that once he learned of Chelsea’s interest, he was only going to end up at Stamford Bridge.

[According to Four Four Two, Willian said](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/willian-signing-chelsea-was-complicated-liverpool-and-tottenham-were-interested?utm_m_medium=t&utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral): “The situation was… complicated. Well, not complicated actually. It was more… unusual. When I came to London, there were other clubs interested in my football: Liverpool, Tottenham as well as Chelsea”.

“When I understood they \[Chelsea\] were really keen to sign me, I said my decision was made. I wanted to go to Chelsea”, [he added](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/willian-signing-chelsea-was-complicated-liverpool-and-tottenham-were-interested?utm_m_medium=t&utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral).

Clearly, then, Tottenham and Liverpool never really had a chance of signing the attacker, with Chelsea clearly a more attractive option for him.

That decision has certainly been vindicated in that time, with the Blues winning a plethora of trophies, whilst both Tottenham and Liverpool have both struggled for silverware.

This has certainly given the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern a few bragging rights over their rivals in the pub.

***Landlord’s Verdict***

Chelsea and Willian have been perfect for each other. His recent performances have been poor, but he has been a regular starter since moving to the club, and with good reason. Particularly in 2015, as Chelsea went through a dry patch, the Brazilian stepped up – and that will never be forgotten by fans.

Still, he could have really done a job at both Tottenham and Liverpool. Tottenham, and Mauricio Pochettino in particular, would have loved his hard-working attitude, but alas, it wasn’t to be.
