# 5 midfield combos for Manchester United, now Herrera is on board

![Januzaj, Herrara, Carrick, Mata](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Adnan-Januzaj-150x150.jpeg)Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are preparing for a busy week ahead with Louis van Gaal set to be officially unveiled as the new boss on Thursday.

The Dutchman has refused a holiday after guiding the Netherlands to a third-placed finish at the World Cup and wants to set about the rebuilding job at Old Trafford as quickly as possible.

‘Rebuild’ became a phrase strongly associated with Manchester United last season.

But when you consider David Moyes spent over £60 million on Maraoune Fellaini and Juan Mata last season and the club have splashed another £60 million already this summer on Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera – is there really that much work to be done?

United have one of the largest and most expensively assembled squads in the country and now they have a manager the class of Louis van Gaal on board, you can expect a hell of a lot better than last seasons’ shocking seventh-placed finish.

The midfield proved a weakness last season, but the signing of Herrera from Athletic Bilbao is sure to give United an extra cutting edge.

Here we have taken a look at five possible midfield combinations, now the Spanish schemer is on board.
