# AC Milan: Marco Giampaolo was set to be sacked at half time of Genoa match

**AC Milan were willing to sack Marco Giampaolo at half time of the Genoa match on Saturday, according to [SempreMilan](https://sempremilan.com/sm-giampaolos-future-being-evaluated-he-was-almost-sacked-at-half-time).**

It has been [**suggested**](https://sempremilan.com/sm-giampaolos-future-being-evaluated-he-was-almost-sacked-at-half-time) that Paolo Maldini even left the Marassi to make an important phone call to the club during the game.

Giampaolo’s side was able to secure a 2-1 win in the end, with Pepe Reina saving a 93rd-minute penalty, though the fact he was so close to being dismissed indicates that the club are beginning to lose their patience with the manager.

Milan have struggled this season, with the three points against Genoa taking them to 9 points in 7 games and 10th in Serie A, as per [**WhoScored**](https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/108/Tournaments/5/Italy-Serie-A), with the team already having lost against Udinese, bitter rivals Internazionale, Torino and Fiorentina.

So when they went in at half time 1-0 down, after Reina misjudged the flight of Lasse Schone’s free-kick, the signs were beginning to point towards Giampaolo being dismissed.

However, things were turned around in the second half, with Theo Hernandez scoring in the 53rd-minute, before Franck Kessie converted from the penalty spot six minutes later.

The indication is that those six minutes have saved Giampaolo’s job for now, with him clinging onto it by a thread – it is hard to see how he can continue to work under these conditions, without eventually succumbing to the pressure.

Giampaolo’s next hurdle to overcome is a home match against Lecce, before Milan travel to face Roma.
