# AC Milan: Stefano Pioli named as Marco Giampaolo’s replacement

**Stefano Pioli has been announced as Marco Giampaolo’s replacement as AC Milan head coach, as confirmed on the club’s [official website](https://www.acmilan.com/en/news/media/2019-10-09/stefano-pioli-appointed-as-ac-milan-new-coach).**

Giampaolo was dismissed from the club on Tuesday, despite his side beating Genoa 2-1 after Pepe Reina saved Lasse Schone’s 93rd-minute penalty.

There was less than 24 hours between the former man being sacked and Pioli coming in to replace him.

Pioli had been out of a job since leaving Fiorentina in April 2019, as per [**Transfermarkt**](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/stefano-pioli/profil/trainer/2135), having managed Internazionale for less than a year before taking over at La Viola.

It is also notable that he has [**never won a single trophy**](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/stefano-pioli/profil/trainer/2135) in his managerial career, which began in senior football in 2003.

All of this left [**many fans fuming**](https://www.football-italia.net/145027/milan-fans-furious-pioli) at the thought of the 53-year-old becoming their club’s head coach, a sign of how little faith is currently being put into his ability.

The 53-year-old will need to improve results if he is to get himself into the fans’ good books, as Milan currently sit [**10th in Serie A**](https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/108/Tournaments/5/Seasons/7928/Italy-Serie-A) with 9 points from 7 games.

Hiring a manager who has never won a trophy does not seem to show the ambition many would argue is needed to get Milan in a better position, while the Inter link definitely doesn’t help Pioli’s cause.

The new head coach could have a very difficult task on his hands from the off, so it will certainly be interesting to see how he gets on.
