***Hot on the heels of recent comments made by Lille’s Eden Hazard, Ajax’s Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen has stated his desire to play for Tottenham Hotspur, report [The Daily Express.](https://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/305115/Jan-Vertonghen-in-Tottenham-plea)***

This is what the defender had to say when questioned about speculation linking him to Spurs:

> ******“This is a fantastic club. You can see how well they do this season. They are in the top three in England and that is where I want to play.”***\***

Vertonghen’s comments would indicate he is there for the taking if Harry wants him this summer. Vertonghen partners Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen in the Belgian national team, but could become a club rival if he gets his wish.

The 22 year-old can also play in as a left-back, and is equally adept at playing the holding role in midfield. He has spent his entire professional career at Ajax, but it looks like he’s after a new challenge.

Vertonghen has made thirty-five appearances for his country, scoring two goals since his debut back in 2007. Vertonghen would likely command a fee of around £10 million.
