# Everton: Alex Iwobi ‘unlikely’ to leave this summer

**[Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) midfielder [Alex Iwobi](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/alex-iwobi/) is ‘unlikely’ to leave Goodison Park this summer, according to [Sean Dyche](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/sean-dyche/).**

### The Lowdown: Iwobi exit claims

The [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) playmaker has entered the final [18 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-everton/berateruebersicht/verein/29) of his contract on Merseyside but [reports](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/everton-toffees-pressing-ahead-with-new-alex-iwobi-contract/) last month claimed that the club were looking to tie him down to fresh terms.

However, Turkish outlet [A Spor](https://www.aspor.com.tr/fenerbahce/2023/03/02/jorge-jesus-onay-verdi-fenerbahce-transferi-10unla-kapatiyor?paging=25) suggested on Thursday that the Toffees star is ‘unhappy’ and ‘wants to leave’ with Fenerbahce eyeing an out-of-window move, though this now won’t happen with their transfer window deadline closing on Sunday.

### The Latest: Dyche’s comments

Speaking during his Friday pre-match press conference, Dyche was asked for his verdict about the rumours linking Iwobi with an Everton exit.

As quoted on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/joe_thomas18/status/1631655302918447106?s=46&t=cVYwodEwJ5KqH22eIl4UYA) by journalist [Joe Thomas](https://twitter.com/joe_thomas18), the boss replied:

“Sean Dyche, asked about reports suggesting Alex Iwobi is unhappy and could move to Turkey: “Well, I’ve seen him today and he seems to be quite happy at the moment… it is unlikely I would suggest.”

### The Verdict: Keep hold of him

Iwobi has been [labelled](https://www.footballfancast.com/everton-fc-news/everton-frank-lampard-alex-iwobi-moshiri-premier-league-opinion-analysis-latest-news-efc-toffees/amp) an ‘inspiration’ at Everton by journalist [Henry Winter](https://twitter.com/henrywinter?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor) and it’s important that Dyche does everything he can to keep hold of him.

The Nigerian international is currently averaging two tackles and 1.6 key passes per top-flight game, via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/136824/Show/Alex-Iwobi), but is also a threat in the final third having racked up [nine](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-iwobi/leistungsdaten/spieler/242631) goal contributions across all competitions this season.

The Lagos native also offers flexibility having operated in [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-iwobi/leistungsdaten/spieler/242631) various positions throughout 2022/23, making him a useful option for Dyche to have in the building should any unexpected injuries occur.
