# Leeds United: Alex McLeish discusses Kalvin Phillips transfer interest

**[Former Premier League manager](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-mcleish/leistungsdatenDetail/trainer/645/wettbewerb_id/GB1) Alex McLeish has [indicated](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-mcleish-wowed-by-leeds-united-player/) that it would take a ‘mammoth’ transfer bid from either Tottenham or Liverpool to tempt Leeds United into selling [Kalvin Phillips](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-transfer-rumours/noel-whelan-leeds-wont-sell-kalvin-phillips/).**

The England international has been in impressive form since the start of the Premier League season and has been rewarded for that form at international level with Gareth Southgate [handing him chances with England.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalvin-phillips/nationalmannschaft/spieler/351749/verein_id/3299)

As per [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/leeds-kalvin-phillips-50m-transfer-22861917), Phillips has recently attracted interest from Spurs, whilst Liverpool also remain in the hunt for the defensive midfielder.

Having played a large part in the Whites’ promotion to the Premier League last season, [starting 37 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalvin-phillips/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/351749/plus/0/saison/2019/wettbewerb/GB2/verein/399) in their Championship-winning campaign, Marcelo Bielsa would seemingly be keen to keep hold of the youngster for the foreseeable future.

### What has McLeish said about Kalvin Phillips and his future?

Heaping praise on Phillips for his recent form and rise to become an England international, McLeish told [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-mcleish-wowed-by-leeds-united-player/):

*“Gareth Southgate’s recognised him now and he’s gone through the stratosphere with the form and ability that he’s shown over the last year or so.*

*“When Leeds are dipping into the market themselves and trying to buy players from Brighton, who are putting the price up every day, and then all of a sudden they’re getting invitations for their own players from some of the big clubs – listen, there’s always a price.*

*“I’ve always said that, there’s always a price but I think he would be one of their most prized possessions. You’re talking Everest.”*

### £50m price tag, but is Kalvin Phillips worth more?

In today’s market, Phillips’ reported valuation of [£50m](https://www.footballinsider247.com/itd-take-astronomical-figure-exclusive-whelan-reacts-to-50m-leeds-transfer-report/) seems a little off the mark, considering he is one of the fastest-developing English players in recent times.

Currently valued at £19.8m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalvin-phillips/profil/spieler/351749), you have to feel that the midfielder is worth significantly more and that may be what keeps him at Leeds, given that the recent pandemic has put [financial restraints](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jun/11/premier-league-clubs-set-for-500m-collective-loss-due-to-coronavirus) on clubs.

Phillips is undoubtedly [a huge part](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalvin-phillips/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/351749) of Leeds’ squad and rise to the Premier League, so the Whites will undoubtedly hold firm for as long as they can before they even think of cashing in on him.
