# Newcastle United: Chris Waugh buzzing over new Elliot Anderson contract

**[Newcastle United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-news/) journalist for The Athletic Chris Waugh has been left buzzing over the news that Elliot Anderson has signed a new contract.**

### The Lowdown: New deal signed

As per the official [website](https://www.nufc.co.uk/news/latest-news/anderson-signs-new-long-term-deal-with-magpies/) of the St. James’ Park outfit, Anderson has signed a new long-term contract.

The 19-year-old has already made [four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/elliot-anderson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/567576/plus/0?saison=2022&verein=762&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) appearances for the senior team over all competitions so far this season, and has now been rewarded for his breakthrough with a shiny new deal.

### The Latest: Waugh buzzing

Taking to Twitter shortly after the news was announced, [Waugh](https://twitter.com/ChrisDHWaugh/status/1572532458171629568) was left buzzing, claiming this is a ‘huge positive’ for the North East club:

*“Huge positive for #NUFC as they tie down the most promising talent to emerge from their academy in years. Elliot Anderson has signed a new “long-term” contract. Howe rightly declares that “our supporters will be especially pleased”.”*

### The Verdict: Big boost

It is no doubt a big boost for the Tynesiders to tie down one of their own in Anderson, who as Waugh claims, is the ‘most promising’ talent to emerge from their academy in a long time.

At youth level, the attacking midfielder scored a staggering 23 goals and made a further eight assists in 54 matches in total, and has been rewarded with six appearances for the senior side ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/elliot-anderson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/567576/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=)).

He also impressed while on loan at Bristol Rovers last season, netting eight times and supplying five assists ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/elliot-anderson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/567576/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=)), helping them secure promotion.

Nonetheless, the new contract is richly deserved, and will no doubt delight the Toon Army that Anderson is part of the long-term project.
