# Liverpool: Reds suffer blow in race for Eduardo Camavinga

**Liverpool are set to miss out on Rennes starlet Eduardo Camavinga as [AS](https://en.as.com/en/2020/05/31/football/1590905621_708457.html) say that the 17-year-old has chosen to join Real Madrid.**

Midfielder Camavinga is one of the hottest talents on the planet right now, and the Reds have previously been linked with a move for him (Diario Sport via [Tribuna](https://tribuna.com/en/liverpoolfc/news/2020-03-19-liverpool-reportedly-contact-rennes-amid-race-for-teenage-sensation-eduardo-camavinga/)).

However, it now appears that Los Merengues have won the battle for his signature, with him set to cost the 13-time European champions a fee of €50m (£44.8m).

Even at 17, Camavinga is already breaking records. In August of last year, he became the [youngest player](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/9750304/real-madrid-eduardo-camavinga-rennes/) in Ligue 1 to record an assist at just 16 years of age, and last campaign he became the first player born after January 1st 2002 to start a game in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

He featured in [36](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eduardo-camavinga/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/640428) matches in all competitions before the French campaign was brought to a premature end, with his contribution helping Stade Rennais finish in third place and therefore qualify for a spot in the Champions League. His talent is clear for all to see.

It is therefore understandable why Jurgen Klopp and co would be interested, and it will be a blow that he has chosen to move to Spain rather than the Premier League. Their chance at signing a generational talent may have been and gone.
