Liverpool have made contact with Barcelona forward Ansu Fati about a move to Anfield, according to reporter Ben Jacobs.

The Lowdown: Fati’s future in doubt

As per reports from Spain, several Premier League clubs are showing an interest in Fati, amid the uncertainty surrounding his future at Barcelona, and the Reds are the latest team to join the race.

Jurgen Klopp already has the likes of Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo to choose from, but there is an indication that he still wants to strengthen further in attacking areas, given that Liverpool have been linked to the likes of Daichi Kamada.

The Latest: Contact made

According to Jacobs (via CaughtOffside), the Reds are one of the clubs to have made contact with the 20-year-old, making some inroads in discussions, however they are yet to contact his employers.

If Liverpool are serious about signing the starlet, they may have to shell out a huge transfer fee, with the reporter speculating that he could cost as much as €100m (£89m), amid interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United.

Liverpool Transfer News and Rumours

The Verdict: Worth it?

The Spain international has a very good record in front of goal with Barcelona, netting on 25 occasions in 89 appearances, also picking up nine assists, and he has recently been dubbed ‘spectacular’ by manager Xavi.

Even so, a fee in the region of £89m would be far too much for the forward, as the priority for Klopp should be a midfielder, given that he is already blessed with an array of attacking options.

Reds fans, do you remember how many players Liverpool signed last summer?

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly set to demand £130m for Jude Bellingham, and so Liverpool cannot afford to risk being unable to compete for his signature by shelling out such a huge amount on Fati.

Should the youngster’s price come down in the summer, then it may be worth the Reds reassessing their stance, but for now signing a top-level midfielder needs to be the main aim.
