# Everton: Anthony Gordon likely to be given a new contract

**[Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) winger [Anthony Gordon](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/anthony-gordon/) is likely to be sorted out with a new contract at Goodison Park in the near future after a determination by [Frank Lampard](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/frank-lampard/) to get a deal done, according to journalist Simon Phillips.**

### The Lowdown: Gordon close to new Everton deal

Earlier this week, [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/12/19/everton-set-stave-chelsea-new-anthony-gordon-contract-close/) reported that the 21-year-old is close to committing his long-term future to the Toffees by penning fresh terms with the club who gave him his pathway to [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) football.

The report claimed that Everton have been very eager to reach an agreement with the youngster in the wake of reported interest from the likes of [Chelsea](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwja7aDpgZD8AhWKWcAKHQhUBl0QFnoECAkQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.skysports.com%2Ffootball%2Fnews%2F11095%2F12679631%2Fanthony-gordon-chelsea-prepared-to-pay-up-to-60m-for-everton-forward&usg=AOvVaw3Bm6NGT00P2O-v4tZApGAh) and [Tottenham](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwi8t6uCgpD8AhXPNcAKHfpyDjQQFnoECA4QAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.football.london%2Ftottenham-hotspur-fc%2Ftransfer-news%2Ftottenham-anthony-gordon-ruslan-malinovskyi-25561700&usg=AOvVaw1XmoTZiCk2eSsT_n388NgR) in recent weeks and months, with Gordon [set for a significant increase](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/everton-back-frank-lampard-new-attackers-january-anthony-gordon-contract-2043189) on his current [£10,000-per-week](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/everton-fc/anthony-gordon-49831/#:~:text=Current%20Contract,average%20salary%20of%20%C2%A3520%2C000.) deal, which runs until [June 2025](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/anthony-gordon/profil/spieler/503733).

### The Latest: Phillips ‘sure’ of new deal for Gordon

Phillips understands that Lampard is strongly urging the Goodison Park hierarchy to finalise a new deal for the winger, adding that the manager’s influence will likely ensure that the 21-year-old puts pen to paper.

The journalist told [GIVEMESPORT](https://www.givemesport.com/88097327-everton-transfer-news-agreement-done-dusted-goodison-park): “Lampard is driving this contract extension. I’m sure that it’ll be done now because of Lampard. Gordon sees staying at Everton as probably the best thing for him to do right now.

“I’m sure Lampard will get that one done and dusted. There’s no recent Chelsea interest to worry about.”

### The Verdict: He’s vital to Everton

In an Everton team who have often been found wanting in the final third this season – their tally of 11 Premier League goals is the [joint-second lowest](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) in the division – Gordon is a rare shining light.

His tally of three top-flight goals in the current campaign might not seem barnstorming by any means, but he is still the Toffees’ [leading marksman](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/31/Show/England-Everton) with that tally.

\[freshpress-poll id=”419159″\]

Nor is that down to luck, either – his xG of 2.7 for the season is the [best of anyone](https://fbref.com/en/squads/d3fd31cc/Everton-Stats) in Lampard’s squad, while he complements his attacking effectiveness with an admirable work ethic – only one player at Everton exceeds his haul of [18 tackles](https://fbref.com/en/squads/d3fd31cc/Everton-Stats) at this stage of 2022/23.

Until such time that the Toffees stumble upon a more reliable source of goals, they need to make full sure that they keep hold of Gordon, and Phillips’ recent claim about the youngster’s future should be quite reassuring for the Merseyside faithful.
