**It isn’t very often these days that punters in the Transfer Tavern see reports linking their club with a realistic chance of landing a star plying his trade for Barcelona.**

Considering the perennial struggles of sides from these isles in the Champions League, as well as the ongoing excellence of the *Blaugrana,* suggestions the likes of Neymar could be on the way to England are met with rolled eyes.

So, imagine the delight of the Arsenal and Manchester United fans when a story from Spanish outlet *[Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20160525/402035254174/arsenal-united-city-juve-e-inter-quieren-a-mascherano.html)* claimed the pair are keen on Javier Mascherano.

The Argentine defender has been [linked](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3609815/Dani-Alves-certain-sign-Juventus-three-year-contract-Barcelona-face-losing-Javier-Mascherano-Italian-giants.html) with a move to Juventus recently and is [understood](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20160525/402035254174/arsenal-united-city-juve-e-inter-quieren-a-mascherano.html) to be keen on a change of scenery after a glittering six years at the Camp Nou.

Having won virtually all there is to win in the game, the 31-year old is [believed](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20160525/402035254174/arsenal-united-city-juve-e-inter-quieren-a-mascherano.html) to have offers from all around the continent.

He has previous in England after arriving with compatriot Carlos Tevez at West Ham in a deal that rocked the country back in 2006.

Though he flopped in East London, he excelled after moving to Liverpool shortly after and became one of the best holding midfielders in world football.

Now converted to a centre-back, Mascherano [could](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20160525/402035254174/arsenal-united-city-juve-e-inter-quieren-a-mascherano.html) be in line for a stunning return to the Premier League this summer.

**How good a signing would Mascherano be for Arsenal in particular?**
