# Arsenal: Gunners’ chase of Tariq Lamptey could be ‘complicated’

**Premier League giants Arsenal are reportedly chasing Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey but they could face a complicated chase for the defender.**

[The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/14259552/brighton-adam-armstrong-transfer-west-ham-blackburn/?utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=sunfootballtwitter&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1615102235) have recently reported about the right-back’s situation, saying that the Gunners hold an interest in the former Chelsea youngster.

### Lamptey’s future is uncertain amidst Arsenal interest

The report from [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/14259552/brighton-adam-armstrong-transfer-west-ham-blackburn/?utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=sunfootballtwitter&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1615102235) has claimed that Lamptey’s future at Brighton is currently uncertain and, when he joined the Seagulls, Chelsea inserted a sell-on clause in the deal.

As things stand, Arsenal are [reportedly the front-runners](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/14259552/brighton-adam-armstrong-transfer-west-ham-blackburn/?utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=sunfootballtwitter&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1615102235)to sign the right-back, as they could be looking to bolster that position in the summer – especially since Hector Bellerin is [of interest to Paris Saint-Germain](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/14259552/brighton-adam-armstrong-transfer-west-ham-blackburn/?utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=sunfootballtwitter&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1615102235).

### Lamptey could be a smart signing for Arsenal

Lamptey has done well for the Seagulls this season, making 11 Premier League appearances and contributing a goal and three assists ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tariq-lamptey/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/504148/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/1237)). The Englishman has racked up a pretty good rating of 6.73 as well, with only six Brighton players outperforming him ([Whoscored](https://whoscored.com/Teams/211/Show/England-Brighton)).

This also happens to [be his first full season in top-flight football](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tariq-lamptey/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/504148) at the tender age of 20. This might be a reflection of his vast potential to develop in the future and, in Lamptey, Arsenal could get a player who can mature even further over the coming years. BBC pundit Alan Shearer is fully convinced about the youngster, whose performances this season he has described as “[outstanding](https://www.premierleague.com/news/1837684#:~:text=Premier%20League's%20record%20goalscorer%20hails,his%20Team%20of%20the%20Week&text=For%20Alan%20Shearer%2C%20the%20future,number%20of%20young%20players%20shone.)“.

Lamptey is currently valued at £16.2m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tariq-lamptey/marktwertverlauf/spieler/504148), so he might not cost too much money either.
