# Arsenal: ‘Look out for’ Cody Gakpo rumours, says transfer insider

**[Arsenal](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/arsenal-fc-news/) could ‘look’ to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo this summer, according to a [transfer insider](https://twitter.com/DeanJonesSoccer?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor) Dean Jones.**

### The lowdown: Wanted man

Previously linked to [Liverpool](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-transfer-cody-gakpo-modric-24398770) and [Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-premier-league-cody-gakpo-transfer-news-updates/), Gakpo has been nothing short of a revelation in Holland having come through the ranks at PSV.

The 23-year-old Dutch international has scored [45 times and provided 35 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/434675) in 138 appearances for the Eredivisie giants, playing a [key role](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/erfolge/spieler/434675) in one top-flight title, one domestic cup and two Super Cup successes in the process.

Indexed more recently to the [Gunners and Manchester United](https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/transfer-news/arsenal-man-utd-cody-gakpo-24694425), Gakpo could still be on the move before the September 1 deadline and one well-informed onlooker has shed some more light on the current situation in north London…

### The latest: ‘One to look out for’

Speaking to [Give Me Sport](https://www.givemesport.com/88045093-arsenal-40m-star-one-to-look-out-for-at-the-emirates), Jones – a journalist for [Eurosport](https://www.eurosport.com/dean-jones_aut2710/author.shtml) – claimed that the [seven-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/nationalmannschaft/spieler/434675/verein_id/3379) is still on the radar for Edu and Mikel Arteta at the Emirates Stadium, whilst a [move](https://www.teamtalk.com/arsenal/transfer-news-moussa-diaby-deal-mikel-arteta-keen-two-conditions-for-move-emerge) for Bayern Leverkusen sensational Moussa Diaby appears to be off the cards.

He said: “Diaby is going to be a hard one. Leverkusen basically just don’t want to lose him at this point, they feel like they’re going to have a good season, so I don’t think that doors going to open.

“Cody Gakpo is still one to look out for if they look abroad for the signing.”

### The verdict: Fingers crossed

Albeit the Gunners made a winning start to the 2022/23 campaign, adding another attacking option to Arteta’s squad would be a welcome boost heading into what looks certain to be a testing season.

As things stand, Arsenal have Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Nicolas Pepe, Reiss Nelson and Marquinhos as wide options, although Pepe could [still be on the way out](https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/transfer-news/nicolas-pepe-arsenal-news-leno-24641175) and both Nelson and Marquinhos remain [unproven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vergleich/spielervergleich/statistik/def/spieler/668268&340325) at the elite level.

Gakpo – who was [described](https://nos.nl/collectie/13873/artikel/2395692-gakpo-is-klaar-voor-basisplaats-oranje-hij-gaat-belangrijke-speler-worden) as a player who ‘has everything’ by Theo Janssen – has made a lightning-fast start to the 2022/23 term himself, scoring [three times and providing two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/leistungsdaten/spieler/434675/plus/0?saison=2022) in just four appearances across all competitions.

Valued at £27million and under contract until 2026 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/marktwertverlauf/spieler/434675)), signing the [flamboyant](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/352825/Show/Cody-Gakpo) Dutchman would likely be an expensive initial outlay for the north Londoners, but there should be no issues when it comes to personal terms as Arsenal would need to better a £7,400 per week salary ([Salary Sport](https://salarysport.com/football/player/cody-gakpo/)).
