# Arsenal: Everton Soares deal edges closer as officials jet to Brazil

**Arsenal are reportedly stepping up their efforts to bring Brazilian winger Everton Soares to the club, with multiple reports pointing towards the Gunners making a success of their pursuit of the 23-year-old.**

Brazilian outlet [UOL](https://esporte.uol.com.br/) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/club-still-waiting-official-bid-edu-gaspars-arrival-arsenal-makes-deal-likely/)) has suggested that while Gremio are yet to receive a bid for Everton, the influence of [newly appointed Arsenal technical director Edu](https://www.arsenal.com/news/edu-named-our-technical-director) gives the club a higher chance of securing a deal for the Brazilian forward.

It also states that while a number of European sides are interested in the winger’s signature, the Premier League is the player’s preferred destination, on the back of ending Brazil’s successful Copa America campaign as the [competition’s top scorer](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/copa-america/top-scorers).

Meanwhile, in Italy, [Calcio Mercato](https://www.calciomercato.it/news/345756/calciomercato_milan_ultime_cm_it_le_cifre_di_arsenal_everton) have reported that upon AC Milan looking less likely to bring Everton to the San Siro,  so Arsenal are the club who seemingly remain best-placed to sign the player.

It is believed that the Gunners have [made an offer](https://www.calciomercato.it/news/345756/calciomercato_milan_ultime_cm_it_le_cifre_di_arsenal_everton) – despite conflicting reports – of €35m (£31.5m), which is thought to be some way short of Gremio’s revised value (following his Copa America exploits) of €45m (£40.5m).

According to the [Italian source](https://www.calciomercato.it/news/345756/calciomercato_milan_ultime_cm_it_le_cifre_di_arsenal_everton), it is thought that meeting Gremio in the middle at €40m (£36m) will be enough for Arsenal to secure his services – with officials flying out to Brazil to finalise a deal.

The presence of Edu – who was part of the [Brazil setup](https://www.arsenal.com/news/edu-named-our-technical-director) while Everton helped his country to [Copa America glory](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48897389) on home soil – has been described as ‘fundamental’ in negotiations for a possible transfer.

These latest developments could give Arsenal hope of securing a winger – which they are clearly in for, having been a reported destination for the likes of [Malcom](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/malcom-resiste-salir-del-barca-elige-destino-7532211) and [Wilfried Zaha](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/32461/11752748/arsenal-launch-40m-bid-for-crystal-palace-forward-wilfried-zaha) this summer.

It seems as though Everton Soares won’t come cheap, which could cause a bit of intrigue regarding the rest of Arsenal’s business this window – with only £40m [reportedly](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48278922) available at their disposal.

But their recent [outlay](https://peuple-vert.fr/actualite/info-pvfr-mercato-william-saliba-part-pour-arsenal-contre-40-millions-deuros/) on William Saliba – who is set to become an [Arsenal player](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11670/11766234/arsenal-agree-deal-with-saint-etienne-to-sign-william-saliba) in the near future – suggests that perhaps there is more than meets the eye as far as their transfer budget is concerned.
