# Arsenal: Fans react as Arsene Wenger hits out at Unai Emery after comments about decline

**Plenty of Arsenal fans have reacted after Arsene Wenger hit out at former head coach Unai Emery following the Spaniard’s comments about the end of his tenure at the club.**

In an interview with [France Football](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2020/unai-emery-at-arsenal-some-stars-did-not-have-a-good-attitude-and-asked-for-more-than-what-they-were-giving-back/) [(via GFFN)](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2020/unai-emery-at-arsenal-some-stars-did-not-have-a-good-attitude-and-asked-for-more-than-what-they-were-giving-back/) last week, the former Sevilla man claimed that the Gunners were already on a downward spiral prior to his appointment in May 2018. However, the Frenchman has staunchly defended the end of his time in north London, pointing to the points tally in the 2016/17 season and an FA Cup triumph as reasons why the club wasn’t failing [(via Daily Mail)](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8015781/Wenger-hits-Emerys-claims-Arsenal-downward-slope-two-years-arrived.html).

Emery endured a tough time in north London as he failed to qualify for the Champions League, missing out on the top four and getting thrashed in the Europa League final. He was eventually sacked by the club last November after a run of six matches without a win [(via WhoScored)](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/13/Fixtures/England-Arsenal).

> Oh god I love the big man but how is he spinning finishing 10 points behind Leicester as a positive, that season was a disaster. Shamefully lazy in the transfer market and threw away the best chance to win the league in years

> He conveniently forgot the season he was fired,we gathered 63 points.I don’t know an Arsenal fan that would say finishing second to Leicester in 2016 was an achievement. Love the guy but he’s deluded if he thinks he left the team in a strong position.
