# Arsenal: Fans lash out at Mesut Ozil after German takes aim at Unai Emery

**Many Arsenal fans have lashed out at Mesut Ozil after the German appeared to take aim at former head coach Unai Emery.**

In an interview at the side’s warm-weather training camp in Dubai, Ozil had a sly dig at the Basque-born coach as he highlighted the key difference under him and Mikel Arteta [(via 90PlusKora)](https://twitter.com/90PlusKora/status/1226853321899569152?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sportbible.com%2Ffootball%2Ffootball-news-funny-reactions-mesut-ozil-aims-dig-at-former-arsenal-manager-unai-emery-20200210). He also claimed that the first team are ‘happier’ and willing to ‘give everything’ under the [37-year-old](https://metro.co.uk/2020/02/11/paul-merson-mesut-ozil-keep-quiet-emery-comments-arsenal-news-12219516/) with club legend [Paul Merson](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12037/11931166/unai-emery-right-to-question-arsenals-players-during-his-tenure-says-paul-merson) voicing his displeasure over the comments on the former Paris Saint Germain coach.

One fan compared the Germany international to Jesse Lingard, a player who has been [criticised](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/11/26/jesse-lingard-hits-back-critics-lifestyle-saw-home-just-think/) over his lifestyle in the past.

Ozil has enjoyed a more prominent role under the former Manchester City assistant coach, starting all seven Premier League games under Arteta, more than he started under Emery this campaign [(via Transfermarkt)](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mesut-ozil/leistungsdaten/spieler/35664). However, he seems to have angered some fans with his comments on the former Sevilla man as they took to Twitter to react. Indeed, here is a selection of tweets to have emerged online.

> Özil’s finished. I was right. Enery was correct to keep him out the squad
