# Arsenal: Fans optimistic over deal but miss out on Premier League midfielder

**Arsenal fans had been voicing their optimism over a potential deal for a former Premier League midfielder on deadline day – though he has [secured a switch to Borussia Dortmund](https://twitter.com/BlackYellow/status/1223305012945747973) since this article was published.**

According to reports from [Sport1](https://www.sport1.de/transfermarkt/2020/01/emre-can-zum-bvb-juventus-profi-im-anflug-paco-alcacer-in-spanien), the Gunners were one of a number of clubs, who have made an offer for Emre Can whose move to Borussia Dortmund was in doubt. The [publication](https://www.sport1.de/transfermarkt/2020/01/emre-can-zum-bvb-juventus-profi-im-anflug-paco-alcacer-in-spanien) go on to claim that the Germany international had not accepted the offer from the Bundesliga outfit, offering optimism to other sides who have made an offer for the player.

When compared to Arsenal’s midfield options, [Can](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/111212/Show/Emre-Can) averages fewer tackles per game in Serie A than [Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/13/Show/England-Arsenal) do in the Premier League, as per WhoScored. With news the Juventus player’s move to Germany could fall through, fans were optimistic about the club being able to sign the player as they took to Twitter to react to the report. Here is a selection of tweets from the Emirates Stadium faithful:
