# Arsenal: Fans over the moon after David Ornstein’s latest update on transfer of Pablo Mari

**Arsenal fans were over the moon after David Ornstein provided an update on the club’s chase of Flamengo centre-back Pablo Mari.**

The Athletic’s journalist reported that the north London outfit had agreed on a loan deal with an option to buy for the 26-year-old [(via David Ornstein)](https://twitter.com/David_Ornstein/status/1222438627428458496). However, the news surrounding the former Manchester City man was less than promising earlier this week after [ESPN](https://www.espn.com/football/soccer-transfers/story/4041620/arsenal-deal-to-sign-flamengos-pablo-mari-collapses-sources) claimed that a deal to sign the defender had collapsed.

Arsenal are facing something of a crisis in central defence this season with a mixture of bad performances and injuries hampering their progress. Prior to [Shkodran Mustafi’s fitness woes](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51275134), Calum Chambers’ season was ended after he picked up a knee ligament injury against Chelsea last December. In terms of performances at the back this campaign, the Gunners have conceded the ninth-most goals in the division (34), showing considerable weaknesses [(via Premier League)](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/goals_conceded).

Fans were thrilled with the update from the famed journalist, who is a cult hero among supporters [(via The Sun)](https://www.dreamteamfc.com/c/news-gossip/145387/bbc-sports-david-ornstein-become-arsenal-cult-hero-hilarious/), as they took to Twitter to react to the news. Here is a selection of tweets from the north London faithful:
