# Arsenal: Fans react to William Saliba’s peformance versus Lyon

**Many Arsenal fans are buzzing after seeing defender William Saliba put in a top performance for Saint-Etienne.**

The centre back starred in a huge 1-0 win over their arch-rivals Lyon, with Les Verts scoring a 90th-minute winner through Robert Beric.

Arsenal signed the 18-year-old on a five-year contract but was instantly loaned back to Saint-Etienne for the next Ligue 1 campaign.

The Gunners paid £27m for the French defender, despite interest from North London rivals Tottenham, according to the [BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49117667).

This was the defender’s first start of the league season for Saint-Etienne, with the youngster being out injured earlier in the season [through a hamstring injury](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/william-saliba/verletzungen/spieler/495666). New manager Claude Puel gave him his first start of the Ligue 1 campaign and he was duly rewarded with three points and a clean sheet.

Arsenal fans loved to see their new man playing so well, as you can see from the responses below…
