# Arsenal: Fans relieved after latest reports over John Stones

**Arsenal fans have been displaying their relief after there was an update on their chase of Manchester City defender John Stones.**

[The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/10731643/john-stones-arsenal-transfer-man-city/) reported recently that the Gunners had made the England international their number one target. However, the [Manchester Evening News](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/john-stones-arsenal-transfer-city-17564205) have since come out with a report claiming that the Citizens have ruled out a departure for Stones this window.

He has endured a tough year at the Etihad Stadium this season, having featured in just 14 games across all competitions [(via Transfermarkt)](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/john-stones/leistungsdaten/spieler/186590). Taking a look at comparisons between [Stones](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/101374/Show/John-Stones) and [Sokratis](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/22210/Show/Sokratis), the Englishman averages less across all defensive categories, bar offsides per game, in the top-flight.

After conceding a [whole host of goals in the first half of the campaign](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/goals_conceded), Mikel Arteta seems to have shored up the defence with the team having let in [just two in their three games](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/13/Fixtures/England-Arsenal) so far this year.

Fans were left feeling relieved about the fact the club seemingly won’t be getting Stones this winter as they took to Twitter to react, with one supporter quite hilariously claiming the England star would be another ‘clown’ to add to their collection of error-prone defenders.
