Arsenal and Edu have reportedly had a proposal rejected to sign Atletico Madrid prospect Abde Raihani.

The Lowdown: Deflated at the Emirates

Everyone at the Emirates Stadium will be feeling deflated after Mikel Arteta's team lost 3-1 to Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday night, allowing Pep Guardiola's side to leapfrog them at the top of the table.

They will be hoping that they can bounce back immediately away at Aston Villa at Saturday lunchtime, as they face their former manager in Unai Emery to try and get back to winning ways.

The Latest: Raihani proposal rejected

As per Spanish news outlet Marca (via Sport Witness), Raihani has rejected a proposal from the North Londoners, as well as Manchester United and Wolves, in favour of staying at Atletico.

The 19-year-old is set to sign a new deal at Atletico 'in the coming days', which will keep him there until 2027.

Raihani has 16 goals in 19 matches in the youth league, and three in six in the UEFA Youth League, and as such Atletico want to ensure that he plays for their first team over the next few years, and have also protected his value with a new €70m (£62m) release clause inserted in his contract.

The Verdict: Shame

It is a shame for Arsenal to miss out on a talent like Raihani, and they will now be looking elsewhere to bolster their youth ranks.

They have been linked with moves for Athletico Paranaense forward Vitor Roque and Real Valladolid right-back Ivan Fresneda, who they could still look to sign in the summer.

Raihani would have been an exciting addition to the ranks though, with the six-foot-one striker also boasting an impressive international record with Morocco, scoring three goals in seven games for their U20s, but he looks set to stay at Atletico for the formidable future.
