Arsenal: Journalist backs Cody Gakpo transfer rumours but rules out Jarrod Bowen -Arsenal News

Arsenal signing PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo is possible but a move for Jarrod Bowen would take ‘ridiculous’ money, according to reputable journalist Ryan Taylor.

The lowdown: Gunners interested

Recently a report from Football.London claimed that the north Londoners are one of numerous clubs keen on acquiring Gakpo’s services during the ongoing transfer window.

The 23-year-old Holland international has previously been heavily indexed with a move to Leeds United having been earmarked as a possible Raphinha replacement.

However, that move, or indeed any, is yet to materialise for Gakpo and one well-informed onlooker has had his say on the links as well as the speculation suggesting that West Ham star Bowen could also be on the radar at the Emirates Stadium…

The latest: ‘One they will look at’

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Taylor – a journalist for The Express – has claimed that Arsenal will have the seven-cap Dutchman in their sights, whilst a move for Bowen is seemingly off the cards at this stage.

He said: “He’s one they will look at (Gakpo). I’m not sure about the links to Bowen, I don’t think West Ham would consider a sale and if they did, it would take a ridiculously big offer.”

The verdict: Make it happen

Although the business conducted so far by Edu has to be heralded as a success, there remains room in Mikel Arteta’s squad for one further attacking addition, particularly with the added workload of European football back on the horizon next season.

Capable of playing anywhere across an attacking front three, Gakpo would provide the perfect understudy for the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Eddie Nketiah, Bukayo Saka and summer signing Gabriel Jesus.

Last season, the talented Dutch ace – who was described as a ‘sensational player’ by Football Oranje editor Michael Bell – scored 21 times and provided 15 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions for PSV.

Overall, the £27million valued gem earned a staggering 7.51 Sofascore rating, the fourth highest in the entire Eredivisie, whilst successfully completing 2.9 dribbles, carrying out 2.6 key passes and finding the target with 1.1 shots on average per game in the Dutch top-flight.

That form, combined with room to develop further and a likely affordable asking price compared to that of Bowen, make Gakpo a superb candidate to arrive in N7 before the window closes.
