Arsenal and Edu ‘would look at’ the possibility of signing PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo in January, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Lowdown: Gunners’ interest

The Athletic claim that the Gunners, alongside Premier League rivals Manchester United and Real Madrid, are all keen on a deal for the 23-year-old during the upcoming window.

Erik ten Hag’s side are believed to have been quoted £38m over the summer, with this likely being the fee for any potential suitors to pay should they want to prise him away from the Philips Stadium.

The Latest: Sheth’s comments

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Sheth revealed that Arsenal would be willing to make an approach for Gakpo, whether this be in the New Year or the summer of 2023. He said:

“Arsenal is an interesting one, because, throughout the transfer window, I think the right side of the attack was a priority position. Now, Gakpo’s priority position, and preferred position, is on the left, but he can play in the centre and he can play on the right.

“At the moment, Saka’s occupying that right side of the front three just now. He would be someone that Arsenal would look at. I think it would fit the profile as well, as far as Arteta is concerned, because we know what he's trying to build a squad of young players who've got high ceilings and high potential so it could be one that Arsenal do look at in January, potentially, but the summer is more realistically.”

The Verdict: Fantastic addition

Gakpo is an extremely versatile player, and whilst competition for places is high, he would be a fantastic attacking addition at the Emirates.

The ‘phenomenal’ forward, as dubbed by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, has already made an outstanding 26 goal contributions in just 20 appearances across all competitions this season, and currently averages 4.2 shots per league game.

The Dutchman is no doubt set to have a hugely successful World Cup meaning that his valuation could sky-rocket, so Mikel Arteta will need to act fast should he want to land his target.
