Aston Villa currently sit 19th in the Premier League and it hasn’t been the best campaign for them back in the top flight. However, Jack Grealish has received a lot of praise this season and this has seen him being linked with Manchester United, and pundit Craig Burley has suggested that Arsenal should also be keeping tabs on the player.
With Bruno Fernandes signing for the Red Devils, links of Grealish going to Old Trafford have died down and Burley, who was speaking on ESPN, believes that this is the ideal time for the Gunners to try and sign him
He said (via Daily Star): “Jack Grealish is a difficult one. I don’t see him going to Man City. I don’t think they’d be interested. I think you’re looking at Man United. Arsenal… I think he would improve Arsenal, he’d certainly improve Tottenham. Those are the types of clubs (that he would suit).”
It’s hard to disagree with Burley here, Grealish is the ideal attacking midfielder that the Gunners need. He has picked up seven goals and six assists in the Premier League this season, whilst averaging 2.6 key passes a game and 1.9 shots per game, via WhoScored.
Grealish has been compared in the past to Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil, who had previously been lauded for his impact at the Gunners but now can’t get into the starting XI or sometimes even the match day squad under Mikel Arteta, per Transfermarkt.
In one of the German’s better seasons at the Gunners back in 2017/18, he had very similar stats to the Villa captain as he managed 3.2 key passes a game and 1.5 shots a game, per WhoScored. Now that Ozil is not being used, Arteta seems to lack that high-calibre creative midfielder behind the front three, so Grealish could be an ideal signing for Arsenal.
