Arsenal: Emiliano Martinez speaks on his future at the club

Arsenal: Emiliano Martinez speaks on his future at the club - Arsenal News

One shock this season at Arsenal has been the rise of substitute goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. When Bernd Leno was stretchered off in the second game of the Premier League restart, many would have been worried, but the Argentinian has received a lot of praise since coming into the side.

However his latest comments might worry supporters of the club as his future as number one goalkeeper is still uncertain.

The situation around the goalkeeping spot is a hard one, and if Martinez has to settle with a place on the bench when Leno returns his latest comments seem to suggest that he won’t be pleased.

question mark

Who was George Graham's first signing for the club?

Speaking to Continental 590, via Football.London, he said: “I showed that I can play, I need to play more games next season. I want to establish myself at Arsenal and become first choice. If I don’t play, I’m going to move, I’m going to go where I play more.”

The 27 year-old had only made six appearances in the Premier League before June, per Transfermarkt, despite the fact that he has been at the club for ten years. Since that Brighton match however, Martinez has played nine games in the division, kept three clean sheets and conceded just nine goals. He has also made 38 saves in these matches, per Premier League.

Added to that, he also helped the club win the FA Cup, and it really has been a great spell for him since he has been in between the sticks. Therefore it is understandable as to why he would come out and make these comments as he has had a taste of first team football at a top club and feels like he doesn’t deserve to be sitting on the bench, especially at the age of 27. He has made great saves, like the one against Liverpool, which show how good he can be.

For the Gunners though, this will definitely be a worry, as they have a lot of games to play next season in the Premier League, two domestic cups and the Europa League, so to have such good squad depth in the goalkeeping position is great to have, especially with the injury to Leno, as it has now shown them they have a great substitute in case this situation happens again. His latest comments will definitely alert clubs to the fact he might be available to buy and it will make it even harder for the Gunners to keep him.
