Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus has turned many heads in the media following his omission from Tite's latest Brazil national team squad.

The Lowdown: Jesus shines in north London...

The South American completed his mega-money move from Premier League champions Manchester City in the summer with Jesus not looking back since.

He has enjoyed a fine start to life at the Emirates Stadium, bagging an impressive three goals and three assists in six league starts under Mikel Arteta, a manager he knows well from his time at City.

The 25-year-old, going by his recent performances, could prove to a real bargain for £45m - but it appears that Brazil boss Tite has other players in mind for his country's upcoming friendlies against Ghana and Tunisia.

Indeed, despite his fine form, Jesus has been left out of their latest World Cup warm-up squad alongside fellow Gunners stars Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes (Sky Sports).

The Latest: Media react...

This decision has stirred up serious debate from members of the South American media.

They explained:

"But as much as everyone knows that Gabriel Jesus is in the Cup, his absence at his best moment in a long time caught me completely off guard." - Allan Rodrigues, Brazilian social media influence and Twitch celebrity (via Twitter)

"Gabriel Jesus from outside is perhaps the biggest surprise on the list, but I see it as a message that he is in the World Cup. Pedro, Matheus Cunha and Roberto Firmino are the ones fighting for a spot." - João Marcos Santana, reporter for Lance (via Twitter)

"Leaving Gabriel Jesus out was absolutely inexplicable." - Felipe Neto, Brazilian YouTuber/Actor (via Twitter)

The Verdict: Head scratcher?

Tite's call to omit the in-form striker is a head-scratching one, but the general consensus from Brazil appears to be that Jesus' spot for the World Cup is already a foregone conclusion, with the manager instead opting to look at those who places in Qatar in November could be in the balance.

Nonetheless, given his brilliant form, both for Arsenal and for City at the back end of last season, omitting Jesus from the World Cup squad would be a very strange decision and seems rather unlikely.
