TalkSport pundit and ex-Arsenal man Ray Parlour is over the moon with the club's decision to offer Gabriel Martinelli a new contract.

The Lowdown: New deal signed

Martinelli put pen to paper on a new contract with Mikel Arteta's side, the deal will see him through until 2027 with the Premier League club.

This season is the Brazilian's fourth league campaign with the north London outfit, he's provided nine goal contributions this season which is only three away from equalling his total from last season.

The 21-year-old has already played 111 times for the Gunners in all competitions and has picked up six caps for Brazil.

The Latest: Parlour delighted

Parlour raved about the decision to give Martinelli a new contract extension and has been very impressed with him at Arsenal when speaking to TalkSport.

He stated (0:00), "He's flying, He loves his football always wants to be on that training ground, he's been brilliant.

"Obviously Smith-Rowe being injured given him more of an opportunity on that left-hand side and he hasn't looked back and that's what you want from players.

"I think he's very well settled in London, so that's great news.

"He's just a really good all-round play, closes people down, he's a worker.

"That's great news for Arsenal that he's signed."

The Verdict: A talent

Arsenal has done the right thing and given Martinelli an extension on his deal, as he's a real talent and can only get better.

The Brazilian has received plenty of plaudits. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp referred to the player as 'such a talented boy' when speaking after the Reds' clash against Arsenal earlier in the season via Football Daily.

For someone who's only 21-years-old Martinelli has already played in a number of competitions at club and international level. Indeed, in our view that experience is valuable and will only make him a better player.

We believe there's no doubt that the player has a long-term future with Arsenal on the pitch, as Arteta clearly rates him very highly and opts to use him a lot.

In our view, there's no concern that Martinelli will struggle for minutes in the future and Arsenal have a young talent who will only get better and better for years to come.
