Arsenal might have a battle on their hands keeping Hector Bellerin at the club as recent reports suggest that Inter Milan are interested in signing the defender.
According to The Mirror, Serie A giants Inter, managed by former Premier League winner Antonio Conte, believe that he would be an ideal full-back to strengthen their squad and hopefully battle again for the title in Italy next season.
Should Arsenal keep Bellerin?
Bellerin is keen to keep any eye on how well the Gunners progress under Mikel Arteta before further committing to the club and, upon finding this out, Inter are now monitoring the situation carefully as they weigh up a bid. Arsenal would apparently set a price tag of around £27m on the Spaniard.
Bellerin has been ravaged by injuries in recent months, with a cruciate ligament rupture sidelining him for the majority of 2019 and a hamstring injury keeping him out either side of Christmas, per Transfermarkt.
He has only managed seven appearances so far this season but, apart from Ashley Maitland-Niles (who isn’t a natural right-back), Bellerin is the only other option for that role – and with Arsenal only keeping seven clean sheets this season, they can’t afford to lose a first team defender. His seven appearances have seen him average 1.3 successful tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game, which is a decent tally for a full-back, per WhoScored.
The reported valuation of £27m seems quite low for a player who is still only 25 and, with their poor defence this season, Arsenal would need a lot more money to replace Bellerin and then improve in the centre-half position as well, so the deal just doesn’t seem like a sensible one for the Gunners.
Arsenal fans, can Bellerin get back to his best? Should the club consider a decent offer from Inter if it arrives? Comment below with your views!
