Arsenal: Martin Keown discusses his only worry over Mikel Arteta managing the club - Arsenal

Arsenal got off to a great start in the new Premier League season as they beat fellow London side Fulham at Craven Cottage at the weekend.

It was a perfect way to start as they kept a clean sheet, whilst captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored and new signing Gabriel Magalhaes also managed to find the net, per BBC Sport.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has been discussing the squad and Mikel Arteta and he believes that one thing could affect the club over the coming season.

Speaking on BT Sport, via The Metro, Keown said, “Arteta talks in four or five different languages. That would worry me because I’d like to hear some of it in English if I was an English player. Arsene Wenger said ‘one language, a common language’. Nonetheless, he’s a fantastic communicator and he’s getting that message across. And when you do talk a lot, as I am now, you’ve got to get results because people stop listening.”

It is understandable for a former player like Keown to think like this, as when he was playing for the Gunners during the 1990s, there were far fewer overseas players in the Premier League than there is now.

It is one of the many developments of the modern game to see most squads filled with players from countries across the globe who speak many different languages and it should not be a worry for the Arsenal squad as they look to challenge the top six again after a lowly eighth-placed finish in 2019/20.

This is the Spaniard’s first full season in charge of the Gunners, but he has also shown that the north Londoners can challenge the best teams in the country as they beat Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals last season and then defeated Chelsea in the FA Cup Final, whilst he also picked up a victory against Liverpool in the Premier League in July, per Sky Sports.

This should highlight that a multilingual dressing room has not affected the squad and all associated with the club should be feeling optimistic for this campaign as they await to see if Arteta can improve Arsenal’s fortunes over the coming season.
