Arsenal fans would have been very disappointed following their 3-0 loss to Manchester City on their return to the Premier League after three months, but it looks like there could be more bad news as it appears Pablo Mari will be injured for a while.

Mari was injured in the first half after trying to track back to keep up with Kyle Walker and he had to be replaced by David Luiz, who was a major reason for the side's loss as he made a mistake for the first goal, then got sent off after giving away a penalty.

Arteta was speaking to the Guardian about the injuries, as Granit Xhaka also came off and said: “They are getting assessed at the moment and we will know something more probably tomorrow morning. Pablo’s one did not look really good, to be fair.”

The fact that Arsenal looked solid with the 26-year-old on the pitch, and then leaked three goals after he came off highlights how strong the January loan signing from Flamengo looked, per Transfermarkt.

The defender has impressed, with Arteta clearly now favouring him in the back line based on the team sheet at the Etihad, despite him only making one other Premier League appearance prior. But now with a possible long term injury, it could mean David Luiz comes back into the side - following his suspension - and after his disastrous performance, this will not just worry supporters but probably worry the Arsenal squad, who will not feel as confident with Luiz at the back.
