Arsenal have got some injury issues at the moment. Bernd Leno has been missing since the Brighton match, whilst Gabriel Martinelli suffered a long term injury, and the news doesn’t get better as Mikel Arteta does not believe one defender will be fit before their campaign this season ends.
Shkodran Mustafi was ruled out of the Aston Villa game with a hamstring strain, but at the time the club were not sure how bad the injury was.
It seems like they now know as Arteta was speaking to The Metro about the German, and said: ‘The rest is true that Musti is injured and we need to assess a little bit how long he is out. I doubt it [he’ll be fit for the final]. I don’t know. We have to see how he evolves in the next few days. At the moment, I doubt it.’
This will be a blow for the side, as Mustafi has been used quite a lot since football returned. He has played in seven of the eight league games before injury, and helped the side to three victories, one draw, whilst also keeping three clean sheets, per Transfermarkt.
With Arteta fancying a formation which needs three centre-backs in the starting eleven, it is crucial that he has all his defenders available to him, so it will be a worry that the German may not be available and especially for the FA Cup final, where the Spaniard can get his hands on silverware in his first campaign as manager.
In their loss against Villa, Arteta had to use Sead Kolasinac in that position, which is something he has dome on various occasions since football returned with the left-back, and it emphasises his lack of depth in the position.
Hopefully without Mustafi, who is valued at £10.80 million, the Gunners can still get a win in their final Premier League season and cap off the campaign by winning a trophy, which would highlight a good first season in charge.
