Arsenal full-back Takehiro Tomiyasu is expected to be fit enough to be named in Japan's 2022 World Cup squad, according to journalist Simon Collings.
The Lowdown: Injury-plagued season
While the Gunners are flying this season, the 24-year-old has suffered a frustrating campaign so far due to various fitness problems.
Tomiyasu has been reduced to just four starts in the Premier League, with Ben White nailing down the right-back position and further hampering his playing time.
There may have been doubts about the defender going to the World Cup with Japan due to his injury woes and lack of club action, but a positive update has now emerged for the 24-year-old.
The Latest: Tomiyasu fit for World Cup
Taking on Twitter on Tuesday in sharing a corresponding article for The Evening Standard, Collings claimed that Tomiyasu is set to be named in his country's squad for the tournament.
He tweeted:
"Optimism that Tomiyasu will go to the World Cup with Japan following initial assessment. Japan coaching staff already flown out to Qatar and staying in contact with Arsenal."
