Arsenal have made contact and are currently in pole position to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Opportunity to strengthen

The Premier League giants are flying high at the top of the table after an excellent start to the season, and the winter market will present the Gunners with the chance to bolster their ranks further in a bid to maintain their leading place.

The Serbian still has 18 months remaining on his deal at the Olympic Stadium so it’s likely that a reasonable sum will be needed to prise him away from Serie A, one that Edu could be open to paying following a fresh update.

The Latest: Arsenal make enquiry

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Arsenal, alongside another unnamed top-flight club, have ‘been in contact’ with Milinkovic-Savic’s agent, Mateja Kezman, regarding a potential move.

Mikel Arteta’s side are reportedly ‘at the front of the queue’ to secure his services, and whilst Lazio have ‘no sense of panic’ in relation to his contract situation, any kind of ‘big move’ away is likely to take place ‘in the summer’.

The Verdict: Get it done…

Milinkovic-Savic has been described as being ‘on the same level’ as Kevin De Bruyne by Ciro Immobile, and the Gunners should complete a deal for him as soon as they possibly can.

The Lleida native is an attacking midfielder and loves to contribute in the final third, having posted ten goal contributions in just 15 league starts this term alongside averaging 1.6 shots per game (WhoScored).

Lazio’s valuation of the 27-year-old yet remains to be seen, but the north London outfit should almost certainly splash the cash should the opportunity to sign him arise later this year.
