Arsenal: Italian outlet makes Sergej Milinkovic-Savic claim

Arsenal: Italian outlet makes Sergej Milinkovic-Savic claim -Arsenal News

Arsenal are reportedly ready to up their efforts to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to Italian outlet Tutto Juve (via Sport Witness).

The lowdown: Serie A mainstay

Signed by Lazio from Belgian outfit Genk in 2015, Milinkovic-Savic has made 231 Serie A outings since arriving in Italy, directly contributing to 89 goals in the process.

The 27-year-old Serbia international has also lifted the Italian Super Cup and the Italian Cup to add to trophies earned in his homeland as well as the European Under 20 Championship title won in 2015.

Under contract until 2024 (Transfermarkt), the first taste of Premier League action could now be on the horizon for the mercurial Milinkovic-Savic…

The latest: ‘Ready for anything’

As per Tutto Juve, translated by SW, Arsenal are ‘ready for anything’ in their pursuit of the 34-cap star.

It’s claimed that the Gunners ‘would offer’ €50million (£42million) for Milinkovic-Savic, who is ‘attracting the attention’ of the north London club.

The report also states that Lazio are ‘trying to make as much money as possible’ for their prized asset who was described as ‘one of the most underrated’ midfielders by GIFN football writer Jerry Mancini.

The verdict: At all costs

Very rarely does an opportunity as golden as this one present itself and Arsenal transfer chief Edu should be pulling out all the stops to bring the £63million valued Serbian to the Emirates Stadium for Mikel Arteta, regardless of the eventual expenditure.

Last season was a mere continuation of the stellar form shown by Milinkovic-Savic during his time in Rome, seeing his 47 appearances across all competitions yield 23 direct goal contributions, all while earning a superb 7.28 Sofascore rating, winning 6.9 duels, making 1.4 key passes and completing 1.2 successful dribbles per league outing.

Sharing a close stylistic likeness with illustrious company such as Jude Bellingham, Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan (Fbref), the fact the blood and thunder Serb – who appears tailor-made for the Premier League in terms of technical and physical attributes – hasn’t yet played in England is perhaps partly to thank for his ‘underrated’ tag.

Even amidst links elsewhere to Lyon attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta, a player of Milinkovic-Savic’s calibre must be considered a priority target and all efforts should therefore be focused on making the deal happen, especially with Lazio seemingly open to the idea.
