It looks like Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is deciding who at the club is surplus to requirements as the transfer window is now open and Sokratis Papastathopoulos looks not to be in his future plans.
According to Football.London, the Spaniard has told Sokratis that he is not in his plans going forward. The Greek centre-back still has another year on his deal however and he is not planning to leave anytime soon.
If he doesn’t want to leave, he will still be around the squad and involved in training but it is unlikely he will be selected by Arteta unless it is absolutely necessary.
If the reports are true and Arteta does not want to use him, then this will probably be quite an annoying problem for the club, and with them already worried that their transfer window might be a struggle due to financial implications, it might stop them getting a defender that the manager will actually use.
Hopefully the Gunners can possibly do something to convince the player, who they paid £14.40m for when they signed him, to leave as he is on £92,000-a-week, so they are just wasting money that they could be using on players needed.
