Arsenal have reportedly held new talks over the possibility of signing Douglas Luiz in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Three bids rejected

The Gunners reportedly had as many as three bids rejected by Aston Villa for Luiz on Transfer Deadline Day, going from £20m to £23m and then a final offer worth £25m in total.

They were looking for a new central midfielder following the injuries to both Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny, and interestingly Luiz had scored directly from a corner against Mikel Arteta's side the night before, but the north London club still ran out 2-1 winners in the Premier League in the end.

The Latest: New talks

As per Football Insider, Arsenal are still working on signing Luiz ahead of the winter transfer window and have held new talks over the 24-year-old.

Villa valued him at £30m in the summer, but given that he only has a few months left on his contract, that valuation could well decrease by the time January comes.

Luiz has told friends that he is keen to join Arsenal and still wants a deal to go through.

The Verdict: Get it done

Following the injuries to Partey and Elneny, Arsenal are now a little short in central midfield, so it is imperative that they bring in another one in January if they can, with Luiz seemingly top of the list.

Hailed as an 'outstanding' player by former Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor, he boasts plenty of Premier League experience.

Also, as a Brazilian, he would likely fit in nicely with compatriots at the Emirates Stadium in Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.

Nonetheless, given his contract situation, there is sure to be more interest in him come January, so the Gunners need to act fast if they are to secure his signature.
