Arsenal reportedly tried to sign Ferran Torres towards the end of the transfer window.

The Lowdown: Winger wanted

Mikel Arteta's side ideally wanted to sign a new winger as cover for Bukayo Saka, who played in every Premier League game last term (Transfermarkt), and so is at serious risk of being burned out.

They were linked with moves for the likes of Noa Lang and Mykhaylo Mudryk towards the end of the window, after missing out on Raphinha to Barcelona.

The Latest: Torres offer

As per Spanish news outlet El Nacional, Arsenal made an 'unexpected offer' towards the end of the transfer window for Torres.

They offered Barcelona a fee of €30m (£26m) for the winger, who the La Liga club were open to selling, but manager Xavi ruled out any potential move.

The Verdict: January move?

If Xavi could be persuaded to sell, Arsenal could then explore a potential move for Torres in January.

Of course, it would be yet another former Manchester City ace that they would be trying to sign, as they had three bids rejected for now Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, and have already brought in Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from the reigning Premier League champions.
