Journalist Paul Brown says that Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez would 'be an absolutely phenomenal signing' for Arsenal this summer.

The Lowdown: In contact

It was reported earlier this month that Arsenal are 'in contact' with the agents of Martinez over a potential move, and that he would be 'very keen'.

Inter are thought to be willing to accept an offer of between £70-80m for him, as they are struggling financially.

The Latest: 'Phenomenal signing'

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Brown says that Martinez would 'be an absolutely phenomenal signing' for the Gunners, although he would not 'rule out' North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race for his signature:

"I think he would be an absolutely phenomenal signing. He is someone who a lot of teams have looked at.

"Spurs are also very interested in him and I think you wouldn't rule them out if he were to become available. Getting into the Champions League is going to be key."

The Verdict: What a statement

It would be a big statement from Mikel Arteta's side if they were to go out and sign Martinez this summer.

Lauded as a ‘beast‘ by his Inter striking partner Romelu Lukaku, the 25-year-old scored Serie A title in the 2020/21 season, and was also part of the Argentina squad that won the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Martinez is a big-game player, and has scored 138 times in total over the course of his career for club and country so far.

Nonetheless, with Gabriel Jesus struggling with injuries this season, he would be a perfect alternative for Arteta, as Arsenal look to battle on four fronts next term.
