Arsenal must stump up £90m in order to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo before Tuesday's transfer deadline, according to reports today.

The Lowdown: Arsenal chasing Caicedo

Arsenal and Chelsea are now believed to be battling it out to sign the 21-year-old, with the Gunners having a £60m bid knocked back on Friday, although the same report from 90min details that further offers are expected.

The Ecuadorian took to Twitter last night to say that he is 'proud' to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton, also stating that he wants to take up the 'magnificent opportunity' of leaving to one of the London clubs.

The Latest: Brighton's stance unchanged

According to The Independent on Saturday afternoon, Brighton's stance is unchanged in the wake of the player's rebellious actions, with the club deeply unimpressed by his social media post late last night.

The report claims that the Seagulls have set a price tag of £90m on the 21-year-old, due to the fact that they have no real reason to sell him, while it is also noted that Thomas Partey's injury could make Mikel Arteta more eager for a new bid to be tabled.

The Verdict: Worth it?

The injury to Partey could be a major issue for the Arsenal manager, who confirmed in his post-match press conference (via Football London) that the 29-year-old is set for an MRI scan, as the Ghanaian has been a key player for the Gunners so far this season, making 16 appearances in the Premier League.

While a replacement may be required, £90m is a huge sum for a player who is still in the early stages of his career, yet to prove himself over a long-term period, appearing just 31 times in a Brighton shirt.

However, it could be a risk worth taking for the Gunners, given that the Ecuador youngster has been hailed as a 'fantastic player' by football scout Jacek Kulig and also praised for his 'superb vision', which is a vital asset for a midfielder.

Caicedo is very adept in the defensive side of the game - totalling 52 tackles so far this season, the joint-fifth most of any player in the Premier League - but £90m is far too much to pay given his inexperience, and Arsenal should not be held to ransom.
