It seems that Arsenal are determined to try and sign sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey, as they are reportedly willing to use some current Gunners player in a swap deal to acquire the Ghanaian.
According to L’Equipe [via Daily Mail], Alexandre Lacazette is a player who could leave the club in the summer, with Juventus, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid interested. Indeed, due to Diego Simeone’s interest in the forward, the Gunners might use the Frenchman in a swap deal for Partey.
Arsenal could be open to his idea amid concerns about the finances of the club and, with Partey having a release clause of around £45m and Lacazette valued at £43.2m by Transfermarkt, it could effectively be a straightforward swap deal with minimal money changing hands between the two clubs involved.
Arsenal boast a range of attacking talent at the club as they have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Eddie Nketiah, as well as Lacazette, among their striking options. Aubameyang has been playing out of position currently as Arteta favours him on the wing but, if Lacazette were to leave, this should allow the captain to play at centre-forward and could therefore be gifted with more goalscoring chances to build upon the 19 goals that he has already plundered so far this season.
Would a swap deal involving Lacazette and Partey be a good idea?
Their only natural defensive midfielder in the starting XI at this current time is Granit Xhaka, and Partey could be the perfect player to play alongside the Swiss international or replace him in the starting lineup as he has been a rock in front of the Atletico defence.
The Ghanaian has two successful tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game, whilst also averaging 1.9 successful dribbles per game, per WhoScored. Meanwhile Xhaka has only managed on average 1.7 tackles and 0.7 interceptions per game, via WhoScored.
If the Gunners want to have a top-class defensive midfielder in their ranks, then using Lacazette in a swap deal for Partey might be worth considering as they could be able to upgrade their midfield options without needing to dig deep into their transfer budget.
