It looks like there could be a big clearout at Arsenal this summer as Mikel Arteta builds the squad that he wants, with the club reportedly happy to listen to offers for Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka.
According to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, Arsenal are open to selling the two midfielders, although the Gunners are not confident that there will be any suitable offers.
Xhaka has had a very difficult season with some poor performances, whilst also being booed off by his own fans against Crystal Palace and stripped of the club captaincy. To compound his woes, the midfielder came off injured in the first half-hour against Manchester City on the return of the Premier League on Wednesday night. It would probably be best for all parties if Xhaka could move on to revitalise his career.
Torreira is a weird one as soome Arsenal fans adore him but he hasn’t seemed to enjoy the Premier League, with him wanting to leave the club last summer. He has managed 33 appearances this season in all competitions but hasn’t set the world alight, scoring just twice, and he may not be the biggest loss were he to leave this summer.
With La Liga powerhouse Thomas Partey heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, and current Gunners star Matteo Guendouzi praised for his performance last night at the Etihad, this could be a very good midfield pairing. Therefor, if Xhaka and Torreira need to be sold to free up some funds for Partey, then the north London side should definitely allow the two to leave.
Gunners fans, would you consider selling Xhaka and Torreira to help raise funds for the potential signing of Partey? Comment below with your views!
