The future of Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi still seems to be unknown and unresolved. However, with the new Premier League season only days away, one club are weighing up whether to offer the Gunners a deal for the Frenchman.
According to L’Equipe, French giants and current Ligue 1 title holders Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the midfielder. This interest is clearly quite big as they have not made an offer yet, but are reportedly willing to include Julian Draxler in any potential deal.
The North London side had set a £30 million price-tag on the Frenchman, but are apparently willing to lower this valuation and Draxler is a player they have been linked with in the past.
It definitely seems like a good idea to offload Guendouzi following some of his antics last season which led to him falling out of favour with Mikel Arteta – he has not been named in the squad since the 20th June.
Draxler and the Frenchman seem to be quite different midfielders if you look at their stats from last season as Guendouzi ranks better when it comes to tackles, interceptions and clearances per game, whilst Draxler has more assists, shots and key passes per match, via WhoScored.
Despite the fact that they are different types of midfielders, the deal could be quite a good one for the club if they could get some money for the Frenchman as well as a player as it could help fund their other transfer plans but also make sure that they still have an abundance of squad depth in the middle of the pitch.
It will be interesting to see if PSG do make an offer sooner rather than later as it would benefit all parties if Guendouzi was to depart and have a fresh start.
