Arsenal have been very keen on trying to sort out a deal to bring defender Dayot Upamecano to the club, and the latest news suggests there will only be one way in which the club can afford to sign him due to their finances.
According to Dean Jones, who writes for Bleacher Report, Arsenal would love to sign the young centre-back and Upamecano is top of their list, but he has a £60 million release clause.
This is worrying for the Gunners due to their financial struggles currently, and therefore the only way they could sort out a transfer with the Bundesliga side is if Leipzig would be keen on a player-plus-cash deal.
Another issue that Mikel Arteta has is that AC Milan are beginning to look at Upamecano as a potential signing, and the Serie A side will have money to spend in the transfer window.
This season, the 21 year-old Frenchman has made 40 appearances in all competitions, including the Champions League and also for the France U21 side. In these games, he has managed on average two tackles, 1.6 interceptions and three clearances a game, per WhoScored.
He has also kept ten clean sheets in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League, and his personal stats highlight how good the player looks already and with the potential he has, the Gunners could be onto a future world class star.
Looking at Arsenal and their defence, David Luiz has made two errors leading to goals, Sead Kolasinac’s one against Tottenham was his first, and Shkodran Mustafi hasn’t made any but he has made errors in the past which he has admitted to and may not lead to goals but can change games, whilst also weakening their backline.
If they continue to be in the defence, then there is no way that the Gunners can get back to where they used to be and challenge for the top four.
Therefore club should be trying everything possible to try and bring Upamecano to the Emirates, the question is, which player(s) would the offer to RB Leipzig in return?
