Many clubs are trying to sort out new deals with players whose contracts are due to expire, or who have a year left, as they don’t want said contracts to be run down. It seems that Arsenal are looking to let one striker go after negotiations have failed to yield an agreement.
According to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, 18-year-old striker Folarin Balogun will be leaving the Gunners this summer after failing to agree terms.
Balogun’s contract runs out next summer but the north London side feel like they will be able to get some money for him in the upcoming transfer window and would prefer this to letting his deal expire without recouping a fee.
The forward has had a prolific time in the youth squads at Arsenal, with 12 goals and four assists in 27 appearances, and he has helped himself to 10 goals and four assists in 15 appearances in the 2019/20 season, per Transfermarkt.
While Balogun has impressed at underage level, he has yet to feature in the senior team at the Emirates Stadium and, with Mikel Arteta having several young attackers like Bukayo Saka, Joe Willock, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah in his squad, it seems that the Spaniard does not rate Balogun as highly and therefore he could struggle to make it at the Gunners.
This highlights that it will probably be for the best for both the player and Arsenal if he was sold in the upcoming transfer window. The player can go out to another team and hopefully be involved in the senior squad and begin to make waves at first team level.
For the Gunners, it would be good because they have a lot of great youth who are currently performing well for the club and, with Balogun’s fine goa-lscoring record in the academy, they might be able to get a good transfer fee for the player.
