Arsenal defender William Saliba has recently enjoyed a loan period with Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne, and recent reports are suggesting that the two clubs are trying to negotiate a loan extension.

According to the Evening Standard, the two clubs are in talks over the possible extension of Saliba’s loan so that he can play in the Coupe de France final next month.

Etienne face French giants Paris-Saint Germain, who will be heavy favourites, per BBC Sport, but the game would be great experience for the young centre-back.

The 19 year-old knows the club well, as that is where Arsenal signed him from in the first place, and the fact they loaned him back shows that there is a good connection between the clubs.

Saliba has had a good season, he has been part of a defence to get the side to a cup final, and managed on average 1.5 tackles and 1.8 interceptions a game, whilst also managing 2.5 clearances a game, per WhoScored.

He will not be eligible to play for the Gunners until next season, so it would be best for Mikel Arteta to allow him to remain in France and fight for some silverware as it would be great experience for him - if his team triumphs then he would bring a winning mentality back to the Emirates ahead of a full pre-season with the Gunners.
