Reports in the past suggested that Arsenal were looking into signing Marc Roca as an alternative Thomas Partey option. However news this week suggests different and the Gunners have also received a positive update on Roca’s transfer fee.
According to The Express, Arsenal have received a big boost if they want to sign Roca as Espanayol were recently relegated from La Liga, and La Razon believes this means that the club will have to sell a lot of players this summer.
Due to this, the midfielder is available for around £18-£22.5 million, with Arsenal showing the most interest, and this has seen them become current favourites to sign the player.
Roca is only 23 and despite Espanyol being relegated, he has had a good season as he has managed on average 2.2 tackles, one interception and 1.4 clearances a game, per WhoScored. His performances have not gone unnoticed at international level, either, as he was part of Spain’s European Under-21 Championship-winning squad last summer.
This highlights how he looks very solid in the middle of the pitch and he is great at breaking up opposition attacks. These statistics are better than current midfielders Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos, per WhoScored.
The price for him as well is quite cheap in the current market as he is still young and has been playing at a high level. If he is already performing well as a defensive midfielder in La Liga, then there is no reason why he can’t get even better – he could become a player at the club for many seasons.
Due to this, he looks like a perfect partner for Partey if he signs for the club as the Gunners need to give as much help as possible to a defence that has been heavily criticised following the North London derby defeat.
