Arsenal are looking to bolster their attacking options in the summer transfer window and Jonathan David is a target they are seeking to pursue, but they will have to battle with Manchester United for the Gent player.
According to the Daily Express, Manchester United and Arsenal have increased their efforts to sign the forward currently playing in the Belgian league for Gent. The Canadian international is wanted by several European heavyweights after some great performances this season and is only 20 years old, so it is clear to see that several clubs are highlighting him as a player for the future.
Belgian newspaper HLN reported that both English clubs are enquiring about the striker and Gent will discuss whether the player is available in the upcoming transfer window. Gent sporting director Michel Louwagie has stated that the club would not sell the prospect for less than £22.4m.
Would David be a good signing?
The Canadian has already set the Belgian League alight, scoring 37 goals in 83 appearances, per Transfermarkt. This is a very impressive tally at such a young age and this season he has managed to get three goals in seven Europa League appearances, showing he can perform consistently at continental level.
It is not just David’s goals that have caught the eye of the Premier League sides, either, as he has averaged 2.1 shots and 1.1 successful dribbles per game, per WhoScored, which highlights how much confidence the player has as an attacking threat.
He is still very young and £22.4 million for a prolific striker with bags of potential seems a very modest fee, so Arsenal should strive as hard as they can to try and land him.
